Located in Southeast Asia, Viet Nam shares borders in the North with China, to the West with Laos and Cambodia and faces the East Sea.
Viet Nam stretches over 1,600 Km along the eastern coast of the Indochina peninsula, covers an area of 3,249,241 sq km and offers a 3,260 km coastline with thousand of offshore islands.
S-shaped , Viet Nam resembles a bamboo pole supporting a basket of rice on each end of the North - The Red River Delta - and the South - the Mekong Delta. Three quarters of the country consists of mountains and hills. The Fan Si Pan mountain (3,143 m), the roof of Indochina, is in the Northern part of Viet Nam. The Truong Son Mountains run almost the full length of the country along the Viet Nam's borders with Laos and Cambodia.
Viet Nam is located in a tropical and temperate zone.
The climate in the South is sub-equatorial and affected by the South-West monsoon. The rainy season is from May to October and the dry season from December to April. The annual average temperature is 26o C in Ho Chi Minh city.
In the central of Viet Nam, the rainy season begins from December and last till February. The annual average temperature in Hue is 25o C.
However, in the Northern provinces, the temperature can sometimes vary from 38o C in summer down to 5o C in winter.
